About Dr. Afshan Khan

Parent. Physician. Community Leader.

Afshan has lived and worked in the Eanes community for over a decade.

She and her family have been part of Eanes schools for 12 years, with 10 years as Eanes residents. With deep roots in our community and a professional career focused on children’s mental health, Dr. Khan brings a steady, student-centered perspective to the board.

Her family’s journey through elementary, middle, and high school gives her a comprehensive understanding of our district and has inspired her to serve as Trustee.

Professional Leadership & Experience

Dr. Khan is a board-certified child and adolescent psychiatrist and the founder of Austin Family Psychiatry. For more than a decade, she has worked directly with children, teens, and families navigating academic pressure, anxiety, and social development. Her medical training in multiple states and internationally gives her a broad perspective on education, public health, and community systems.

Her professional experience includes:

  • Board-Certified in Adult & Child Psychiatry

  • Affiliate Faculty, Dell Medical School

  • Mentor to child psychiatry fellows and medical students

  • Business owner managing staff, budgeting, and operations

  • Advocate for improved healthcare policy at the state level

  • President, Austin Family Psychiatry

  • Named Top Doctor Austin 2025 & 2026

Community Involvement & Volunteer Leadership

Believing in the importance of giving back to the community that has served her family so well is the inspiration for running for Trustee.

Over the years, she has served in a large variety of roles:

  • Co-Chair, Westlake Baccalaureate Committee – Helped to transform a struggling program into a financially sustainable, thriving, student-centered tradition
